HOW TO WEAR COLOUR OF THE YEAR 2024

What is the Colour of the Year in 2024?

For over 2.5 decades, the Pantone Colour Institute, the leading source of colour expertise, has annually chosen a Colour of the Year. Each year, Pantone’s group of colour analysts selects a shade that encapsulates the upcoming year, and for 2024, it’s the colour Peach Fuzz! It’s a pastel peach colour, a light, delicate shade that falls somewhere between pink and orange. The hue, known as Pantone 13-1023 Peach Fuzz, symbolizes the desire to nurture kindness, compassion, and connection as we strive for a peaceful future.

But what does it mean for you?!

In short, if your natural skin undertone is warm, this colour is likely to be a great choice for you. However, if your skin’s undertone is cool, this colour may not be the best option, as it could have a ‘washout’ effect on your natural complexion. That said, it doesn’t mean you can’t wear this colour at all, especially if you like it. Below are my best tips on how to wear a colour that may not complement your natural colouring.

How to wear unflattering (i.e. not your best) colours and still look great:

  1. Avoid wearing the unflattering colour near your face; keep it to your bottom half (e.g. trousers, skirts, etc.).
  2. Instead of wearing it in solid blocks, experiment with patterns instead.
  3. Incorporate the unsuitable colour into accessories, limiting them to around 10-20% of your outfit.

I teach a lot about colours in my upcoming online style course, launching in 1 month. If you struggle with finding the right colours for you and are interested in learning more about how to wear the best colours for your natural colouring, simply register your interest for this STYLE course HERE . Since Peach Fuzz has been announced as the colour of the year for 2024, we will soon see it everywhere in retail stores. Expect subtle peach shades to soon eclipse hot pink, as they are more approachable and easier to style in monochromatic looks. Also, anticipate seeing more of the peach fuzz-inspired textures like suede, fleece, and corduroy working their way into our wardrobes. I’ve already noticed a lot of peach merchandise in stores, and it’s only Week 3 of 2024!

Here are just a few examples of colour combinations to show how you can incorporate this colour of the year into your outfits right now.

However, if you don’t feel adventurous introducing the peach fuzz colour into your wardrobe just yet, try using chic accessories, as they are the ideal way to experiment with colours and freshen up your outfits. One way to introduce this colour gently into your wardrobe this year is in the form of a fancy handbag, shoes, sunglasses, or simply nail polish.
